YOUR JOURNEY AT A GLANCE

7 days. One memorable journey.

Discover northern Tanzania at a comfortable pace on this private seven-day safari. Begin with a night in Arusha, explore Tarangire’s baobab woodland and river valley, then spend three nights in Central Serengeti with time for unhurried game viewing. Continue to Ngorongoro Crater and finish with a morning safari in Lake Manyara before returning to Arusha.

Travel with your own safari driver-guide and stay at Arusha Planet Lodge, Africa Safari Karatu and Mlimwa Tented Camp. The programme combines varied wildlife habitats with comfortable midrange accommodation, the meals shown in the itinerary and the park fees for the included visits. Game drives follow local conditions and your guide’s judgement; wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Day 1

Arusha

Arusha is a practical starting and finishing point for many northern Tanzania safaris, linking airport arrivals with the road routes toward Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. A stay here gives time for rest, briefing and any separately arranged town or farm activity before longer travel begins. The city and its surrounding accommodation areas vary considerably, so the stay is shaped by the actual accommodation selected. Arusha is most useful as a comfortable transition between travel and the safari itself, rather than an assumed sightseeing package.

Day 6

Ngorongoro Crater

Wildlife and crater scenery

Descend from the Ngorongoro highlands into the crater for a game drive across one of northern Tanzania’s most distinctive wildlife landscapes. The crater floor contains open grassland, marshes, woodland and seasonal water, allowing a wide variety of animals to live within a relatively compact area. Your guide follows the approved road network while looking for large herbivores, predators and birdlife, with the dramatic crater walls forming a constant backdrop. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but the density and variety of habitats make the day consistently rewarding. Any booked picnic is taken at a designated site before continuing the drive. Later, climb back to the rim and continue to your lodge in the highlands, Karatu or onward toward the Serengeti according to the itinerary.

Day 7

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara scenery

Begin with wildlife viewing in Lake Manyara, allowing the morning to focus on forest, woodland and the changing lakeside environment. The park offers a useful contrast between shaded habitats and more open sections, with the guide choosing accessible routes rather than pursuing a promised species. After the planned safari, leave the park and return east toward Arusha. The transition from protected habitat to busy settlements makes the return journey part of the wider northern Tanzania experience. Arrival depends on the time spent game viewing and road conditions. This day works well at the end of a short circuit when guests want a final safari before an Arusha overnight.
